When it comes to magic mushrooms, there are so many options, or so many strains. There are so many weird names that come out that it’s hard to make sense of all the different aspects and specifics. So in this article, we’ll go through five of the most popular cubensis strains: B+, Penis Envy, cambodian, golden teacher and tidal wave.
There are over 200 species of psychedelic mushrooms, and all of the strains that are covered in this article are psilocybe cubensis. Cubensis is one of the most popular species and the easiest to grow. You can think of strains like dog breeds; all domesticated dogs are the same species. However, a Great Dane is a very different dog than a Chihuahua. Same species, but there’s a huge difference between the actual felt experience, how they grow, etc.
Are B+ mushrooms strong?
B+ is an extremely popular strain that is thought to have been developed intentionally by a cultivator 30 years ago. The experience has a very fast onset, and it has sort of a wavy aspect to it in terms of visuals rather than being the typical geometric visuals with psilocybin. There’s a very little body load and it feels clean overall.

Tidal wave is a cross between Penis Envy and B+. It is a very strong strain; in fact, it currently holds the title for the world’s strongest psilocybe cubensis mushroom. It grows fast. The experience is similar to Penis Envy, in that it has strong visuals with an intense euphoria that comes with a certain sense of mental clarity. Tidal wave produces feel good sensations in the body and many users find these mushrooms helpful for getting out of a rut and helping to balance overall.
Are tidal wave shrooms stronger than Penis Envy shrooms?
Tidal Wave cubensis was created by crossing a culture of both Penis Envy and B+, two fairly common strains. Tidal Wave is a cross between Penis Envy and B+ morphology. There is a noticeable difference in the size of stem and proportion to its cap with Tidal Wave taking after Penis Envy. Further, mature caps of B+ will tend to roll outwards and flare their gills while Tidal Waves caps arch and stay inward, similar to Penis Envy. The gills of tidal wave mushrooms are small and tightly packed, also close to that a Penis Envy.
In general, Tidal Wave shrooms can be stronger than Penis Envy shrooms, and as stated above – the strongest current strain on the market is Tidal Wave. However, Penis Envy shrooms are more consistently potent because they have not been crossed with the more moderate B+ shrooms.
So are Penis Envy shrooms the strongest shrooms?
Penis Envy mushrooms are one of the most famous and desired strains of psychedelic mushrooms. These take longer to grow and are much more sensitive to growing conditions, so they’re often more expensive. Penis Envy is 50 to 100% stronger than your average psilocybe cubensis variety. A Penis Envy shroom trip lasts anywhere from four to six hours and they are considered to be a longer lasting strain of psilocybin mushrooms. They’re known for being quite intense, with very strong visuals and very strong emotions on both ends of the spectrum: anger, sadness and grief, but also bliss, joy and happiness.
